Attack on Titan punishes shallow heroes. Soldiers who survive tend to carry a wound that explains why they keep climbing onto rooftops with blades in their hands. This generator gives you that wound first, then layers a hometown, a family situation, and a private goal that the uniform never quite covers. The result is a starting point you can hand to a writing partner or drop into a campaign without rewriting the entire timeline.
What each prompt includes
- A birthplace inside the walls or in Marley, with a short note on daily life there.
- A defining event: a breach, a purge, an experiment, a betrayal, or a quiet cruelty.
- A reason to enlist or to be conscripted, including who pushed them toward it.
- A relationship that still pulls at them, whether alive, missing, or buried.
- A secret they would rather die than explain at a debrief.
How to use the prompts
Roll one prompt for your protagonist and a second for the squadmate who will eventually betray, save, or bury them. For Warrior candidates, treat the prompt as the version of history Marley taught them, then decide what cracks once they meet the people on the other side of the sea. For tabletop play, share the hometown and the reason to enlist with the table, and keep the secret for private scenes with the game master.
Tips for stronger Attack on Titan characters
Anchor the backstory to a specific year and a specific wall, district, or internment zone. Decide which canon event your character lived through and where they were standing when it happened. Give them one small comfort, a song, a recipe, a sibling's nickname, that survives the war. When the prompt suggests a tragedy, resist the urge to soften it; the series earns its weight by letting grief stay heavy. Let your character carry that weight into every salute.
Unearth Hidden Histories

- What major trauma or event shaped your character’s worldview?
- Are they driven by revenge, redemption, loyalty, or survival?
- Did they lose someone to a Titan attack or hide a forbidden truth?
- What role did they play before becoming a soldier-or choosing not to?
- What moral conflict or hidden talent sets them apart?
